What does it mean to set a new city-pair record? It means your plane is the fastest to fly from the departure to the destination point. It means connecting people across distant geographic locations with an aircraft’s range. For example, one record included a 10,000-nautical-mile flight from Rio de Janeiro to Tokyo — one of the longest city-pair flights on record.
According to the Aviation International News article, the G650ER’s latest record is already approved by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association and is awaiting world record approval by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in Switzerland. The G650 line has already established more than 55 world records. With this flight, the G650ER will add this particular city pair to the ranks.
The history of the G650ER includes setting unique city-pair records and landing with excess fuel, according to PR Newswire.
White Plains, New York, to Beijing in 13 hours, 20 minutes in 2015
Beijing to Savannah, Georgia, (Gulfstream’s headquarters) in 12 hours the same year
The G650ER also set two extended-range speed records in 2014:
Los Angeles to Melbourne, Australia, in 14 hours, 58 minutes
Hong Kong to Teterboro, New Jersey, in 14 hours, 7 minutes
The original version, the Gulfstream G650, set plenty of speed and range records of its own. When the G650 touched down at the Paris-Le Bourget Airport for the 50th Annual Paris Air Show in 2013, it brought three new city-pair records with it.
Savannah, Georgia, to Paris in 8 hours, 16 minutes
Nice, France, to Sao Paulo in 11 hours, 10 minutes
Las Vegas to Madrid in 9 hours, 14 minutes
These records of tremendous speed and range highlight the very important role the G650 series has in the business jet industry. We’re excited to see what developments come of the recent Gulfstream Operators and Suppliers Conference.
